Directed by Jon M. Chu

Yes, I bravely plowed through this. Look, first off there are some minor redeeming qualities which in this case mean a very good construction of a documentary film.. or propaganda. If you leave the subject matter aside and focus objectively on the filmmaking of this "documentary", it is technically quite good. Never Say Never is entertaining and moves along at a good pace which bodes well for director Chu's next film project which will be the highly more demanding action sequel G.I. Joe 2 slated for 2012. That's where the quality ends though since the rest of it is just shameless self gratification which should not be viewed by anyone except extreme Bieber fans of whom this flick portrays quite an unflattering image as a squad of uncontrollable screaming fucking idiots (which I'm sure they are for the most part). The film tells of Bieber's meteoric rise to mega stardom all the way from when he was an irritating toddler and along the film several other celebrities show up to boast by his side including Usher, Sean Kingston, Miley Cyrus and Jaden "Will's son" Smith. Naturally there isn't a single word mentioned of his moral views on subjects such as abortion which Bieber doesn't "believe in" even in cases of rape. This was all a huge controversy in February of this year in a profile interview by Rolling Stone magazine. What it all boils down to is that Never Say Never is a VERY biased look into a teen sensation who is a very talented entertainer but also a growing balloon of hot air with a stupid hair cut and fucking ugly shades. The film even includes a sing-a-long part of his most irritating and famous (s)hit "Baby" and the production company MTV Films once again proves (on so many levels) that Music Television has next to nothing to do with music anymore. Like I said, for extreme fans only!

Justin Bieber: Never Say Never at IMDb

Directed by Renny Harlin
Starring Rupert Friend, Richard Coyle, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Val Kilmer, Rade Serbedzija, Mikko Nousiainen, Andy Garcia, Dean Cain, Jonathon Schaech, Antje Traue, Anna Walton, Heather Graham

Harlin's career as a director hasn't really been going that well in the last decade or so. Once one of the hottest directors in Hollywood has been reduced to making below average supernatural thrillers (The Covenant & Exorcist: The Beginning) and entertaining yet forgettable action flicks (Mindhunters & 12 Rounds). 5 Days Of War is based on the real conflict that took place in South-Ossetia in 2008. The film displays the events through the eyes of a war journalist (Friend) and his cameraman (Coyle). The two men encounter the traditional images of the horrors of war and capture a brutal execution on tape and set out to get this evidence of a war crime out to the uninformed international public. The movie was heavily financed by high ranking Georgia officials and the government (though officially they deny this of course) and is a really one sided argument of the events but even so, the film is quite entertaining and even moving. The budget was around 12 million dollars which is very little for a film of this kind of ambition and the lack of money shows in part considering the desired scale of the action set pieces. Still, 5 Days Of War is a very driven and mostly well executed but once again forgettable film.

5 Days Of War on meidän miehemme maailmalla, Renny Harlinin viimeisin pyristely ylös suoraan-DVD:lle-helvetistä.

I recently noticed that a new live action film project had made it's way onto director Zemeckis' filmography at IMDb. The film is called FlightDenzel Washington is attached to star and it's slated to come out in 2012.

Now, the reason this comes to yours truly as such a good news is that I for one have been living in misery as far as Zemeckis' directorial career has been concerned for the last decade. In the 80's and 90's Zemeckis directed an endless string of magnificent films from the Back To The Future trilogy and Who Framed Roger Rabbit to Forrest Gump, Contact and Cast Away with other solid projects in between. Then in 2004 began his motion capture animated period with The Polar Express. The film and the others like it he has made since then have been solid as far as story telling goes but that's where the fun has stopped. For me at least. Motion capture is a valuable tool but only in live action use such as in Avatar (the Na'vi tribe) and The Lord Of The Rings trilogy (the character of Gollum). In standard animation it becomes lifeless. The eyes are always dead and no matter how much the actors project, the performance doesn't come through as a whole. Personally I think it's better to do a fully animated feature without motion capture or just shoot the damn thing for real as live action. All of this is why I remain hopeful for Flight and the return of a great film director back to his roots. Where he has performed himself at his best.

That was my two cents on this matter.

Ohjaaja Robert Zemeckisin IMDb-filmografiaan ilmestyi hiljattain vuodelle 2012 merkitty projekti Flight, jonka pääosaan on kiinnitetty Denzel Washington.

2004 herra ohjasi ensimmäisen liikkeentunnistusteknologiaan perustuvan animaationsa, Napapiirin Pikajunan.

Directed by David Yates
Starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Ralph Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter, Warwick Davis, Maggie Smith, Alan Rickman, Michael Gambon, Tom Felton, Jason Isaacs, Cierán Hinds, Gary Oldman, Robbie Coltrane, Jim Broadbent and countless more legendary talents

I'd imagine that while it's a joyous occasion for the fans that they have finally seen the Harry Potter series in it's entirety, it must also be a bittersweet feeling since the end is also here. As I've said before, I personally didn't enjoy the first films because they were made for kids and understimated the older members of the audience. The latter films have been increasingly dark in tone which has made the viewing experience more and more close to my own liking.

Harry, Hermione and Ron (Radcliffe, Watson and Grint) continue searching for Voldemort's (Fiennes) three Horcruxes in hope that by destroying them it will make the difference in killing their vicious enemy. As they get closer to their goal it dawns on Potter that in order to defeat Voldemort he might have to make the ultimate sacrifice as the two finally face each other for the final face off.

In a way Deathly Hallows 2 doesn't really offer anything new to the magical world of Harry Potter but then again the formula works in the same way as that of James Bond. They too basically keep making the same film over and over but crucially it's a pattern that works since we keep coming back for more. I'm not a Potter fan. I like the movies but they've hardly changed my life in one way or another. To me, what they are is harmless entertainment. I haven't read any of the books so there's no need to remind me how much better they are on the page. As a series the movies have steadily gotten better with each installment.  The two previous films received the worst rep for being dull and merely showcases for this final film but I think they were good pictures although my personal favorite will remain The Order Of The Phoenix. In Deathly Hallows 2 the action is a very important ingredient and the there's not a dull moment in sight. The amazing ensamble cast is a joy to watch and even Smith gets a piece of the action though many of the legendary actors in supporting roles (Broadbent and Oldman for example) are given leftovers which is a disgrace. Deathly Hallows 2 is a fitting and entertaining end to one of the most popular film series in the medium's history.

I went to see this film in 3D and in some scenes the effect was gorgeous but over all (as in all 3D films) I don't think I brought much difference to the finished film. 3D is a gimmick. The new technology looks good but it might all just be a passing trend because at the end, it really is just a carrot to sell more expensive tickets. In fact, I personally still take the regular 2D over 3D any day.

Loppu tuli. 3D on kikka.

VEIJARIT (2010)

Directed by Lauri Nurkse
Starring Mikko Leppilampi, Antti Luusuaniemi, Pihla Viitala, Hennariikka Laaksola, Malla Malmivaara

Veijarit (internationally released as The Hustlers) is about two friends (Leppilampi and Luusuaniemi) who are womanizers and heavy nightclub hitters. Well wouldn't you know it, one of them falls for a sweet girl and what ensues is a broken bromance. I was personally really waiting for an outrageous comedy about two obnoxious men chasing tale in Helsinki in the wake of, say The Wedding Crashers. No. The film turns into a drama which goes down the same path we've seen countless times all the way to the ridiculously stupid ending. Shit, is it really that much of a gamble for these filmmakers to really go for it with the comedy? Everything always has to have such a dramatic edge it ruins the comedy aspect. Director Nurkse recently directed a decent TV crime series Tappajan Näköinen Mies (roughly translated Man Who Looks Like A Killer) and maybe that's what he ought to pursue next: a thriller. Because judging from this, before he grabs another lighter script, the man needs some practice.

Veijarit at IMDb

Directed by Ben Ketai
Starring Kiele Sanchez, Rhys Coiro, Diora Baird, Harold Perrineau, Mia Kirshner

Well, serves me right for having trust in a straight-to-DVD release. The first 30 Days Of Night (2007) film is still the best vampire film to come out since Blade II (2002) and it is powerful for all the reasons that have been forgotten in this joyless, by the numbers, numbing piece of shit sequel. The first film was genuinly disturbing and the vampires were more like mysterious savage animals than anything else. They didn't speak English but only their own language which made them even  more distant from you and me and the film utilized effectively the fear for the unknown. In Dark Days they do speak English and resemble cheap Bond villains with their henchmen. The script has all the excitement of a roll of toilet paper, the cast is wall to wall amateurs (with one exception, what the fuck is Perrineau [HBO's "OZ", the Matrix sequels)] doing here? Is he really this hard up for cash?!), Ketai can't breathe life even to the simplest of action scenes and the sets are the usual factory floors and tunnels with endless piping running through them. David Slade, who directed the first 30 Days Of Night made even Twilight: Eclipse look decent. I'll bet my huge balls that no-one from this 92 minutes of boredom will ever pull of anything as admirable as that.

30 Days Of Night: Dark Days on suoraan DVD:lle tuotettu vitun paska jatko-osa vuoden 2007 hienolle vampyyrirainalle 30 Päivää Kaamosta.

Directed by Michael Bay
Starring Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, John Turturro, Frances McDormand, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Patrick Dempsey, Alan Tyduk, John Malkovich, Ken Jeong, Julie White, Kevin Dunn, Glenn Morshower, Buzz Aldrin, (voices:) Peter Cullen, Leonard Nimoy, Hugo Weaving, Charles Adler, Frank Welker, Jess Harnell, James Remar

Well, time to bring on the wrath of thousands of die hard TF fans and declare this a successful trilogy throughout. Many would say that Bay couldn't direct traffic to save his life let alone good movies but in my opinion that's all how you look at it. And yes, there truly are different angles. You can't seriously win an argument against these films by comparing them to the likes of Pulp Fiction or Citizen Kane. Those films are art and hardly what you may call entertainment for a friday night. Transformers on the other hand is that kind of a film. And there really is no harm in that.

Sam Witwicky (LaBeouf) is now a college graduate and looking for a job. He's been dumped by Mikaela (who was played by Megan fox in the two previous films and was fired from TF3 by executive producer Steven Spielberg for calling Bay a nazi) and is now dating Carly (drop dead gorgeous Victoria's Secret angel Huntington-Whiteley). The dormant Decepticons have been plotting a scheme ever since the first Apollo moon landing and with treacherous human allies are about to come down hard on humanity unless the Autobots stop them.

The third film in the series improves on the previous installments on the humor front which has always been Bay's Achilles heel. He's really into a kind of loud ghetto humor depicted in the first film by the usually quite irritating Anthony Anderson and in the first sequel by the fucking annoying Autobot Twins. In Dark Of the Moon much of the comedy rests on LaBeouf's comedic timing and physical comedy and luckily that's one thing he's very good at. Also Malkovich shines in a bit part as Witwicky's eccentric boss and Jeong from The Hangover fame manages to pull of his first role where I don't feel like punching him in the face. The first hour and a half is quite easy going and there's a surprisingly large amount of plot building which, in a tradition, culminates in to the last hour of almost non-stop action. The film owes much of it's gravitas to McDormand's presence. It's immediately a different ball game when she is on screen because her performance is very commanding and spot on for this movie. The effects are absolutely photoreal and the Academy will really make an ass of itself if the special effects statue doesn't finally come this way. Also, it's always an unforgettable experience to hear Cullen as the voice of my greatest hero, Optimus Prime but the addition of Nimoy as the voice of Sentinel Prime really finishes the geeky experince for myself and no doubt many others. Especially with all the fun Star Trek and Spock references. Then again, he's not a new commer to Transformers having voiced the character of Galvatron in the 1986 animated Transformers: The Movie.

People and especially fan boys just love to bitch about stuff and the geeky die hard fans of G(eneration)1 Transformers series must have been digging into their starting positions as the first film was announced. Yes, Optimus Prime trampled some flowers in the Witwicky backyard in the first film and everyone grabbed their torches and pitchforks. Shit, really?! You're gonna blacklist a whole film for one throw away joke? In that case the joke's on you, buddy. And the fact that they updated the designs of the characters? Well if you look at the whole thing objectively and stay true to what you'll find, it's a simple fact that they had to. If you would've simply transferred the medium on screen as it was in the 80's series, the whole thing would've looked fucking ridiculous and you wouldn't have been able to take any of it seriously. You fan boys know this, but can't admit to it. Then there's the whole international grudge thing against Michael Bay. Why? Okey, it's very fair to say the man is no Ingmar Bergman or Stanley Kubrick but then again no-one has ever claimed he was. Bay himself once said something along the lines of "I make films for 12 year old boys. Is that such a crime?" and I can't help but wonder the same myself. Once again, people love to complain when it's their turn or when they have the opportunity to do so. Pathetic. I'm sure there are objective people out there who honestly hate these adaptations of Transformers and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. But if it's because you just have lots of misguided random anger or you're just basically an egotistical prick or want to go with the flow and are afraid of standing out while you actually love these films, then you've got nothing. Fucking NOTHING. In fact, I believe most of the lame ass internet trashers haven't even seen all of these films or none of them but still love to fucking bitch and moan about how Michael Bay sucks balls and how he ruined their childhood memories. Fucking face the facts, adjust and deal with it, douchebags. Your complaints are not gonna stop Bay from making movies and by the way that's another fun fact.
