Directed by Steven Soderbergh
Starring Gina Carano, Ewan McGregor, Channing Tatum, Michael Fassbender, Michael Douglas, Bill Paxton, Antonio Banderas, Michael Angarano, Mathieu Kassovitz
Soderbergh is known for often going for an all star cast (for example in Ocean's Eleven, Contagion and Traffic) and Haywire fits right in this bill. He also takes chances with new and/or unlikely talents (such as hardcore pornstar Sasha Grey in The Girlfriend Experience) and now with mixed martial arts fighter Carano whom he spotted on TV one night and thought she'd make a great action star. Soderbergh hasn't always hit the mark as a director, but oh shit was he right about Carano. I'm in love with this woman. She can actually act, the fight scenes have a whole different kind of energy since she REALLY knows what she's doing and honestly, Carano isn't hard on the eyes either. Angelina Jolie who?
On a sidenote, when I saw this they played the Expendables 2 trailer before the actual film and as Schwarzenegger's name came in last and the title of the movie was plasted on the screen the entire audience erupted in thunderous applause and cheers. I haven't been so moved in a while. After all, I grew up watching those 80's action classics and hold a special place in my movie freak heart for these guys. Can't wait for "EX2".
