Directed by Michael Apted
Starring Georgie Henley, Skandar Keynes, Ben Barnes, Will Poulter, Tilda Swinton, Bruce Spence, (voices) Simon Pegg, Liam Neeson
I remember watching the Narnia TV series Silver Chair (1990) as a kid and being enchanted by it's feel despite the show's modest scale. Perhaps that's one of reasons I haven't been able to truly enjoy these big scale, highly polished film versions. They do look great and are executed very well, but to me at least feel somehow soulless. This is the third movie in the series and two more are still promised to come in 2014 and 2015. Dawn Treader is directed by Apted (Enigma, Bond film The World Is Not Enough) who's never been comfortable with action but pulls the stops fairly nice this time. Still, after he made his ill fated Bond film he said in an interview that he didn't even know why the producers wanted him for the job. I can't help but wonder the same in the case of him directing Narnia 3. The movie is somewhat entertaining but the magic you're supposed to feel just isn't there. For me at least.
